The Sustainable Services Negotiation Mandate supports the government`s commitment to improving the services people rely on, making life more affordable and investing in sustainable economic growth. The mandate is consistent with B.C`s commitment to balanced budgets and good financial management. There are currently more than 220,000 public sector employees covered by interim or ratified agreements concluded under the mandate. “I would like to personally congratulate all UBC Child Care members for ratifying their new agreement and thank the elected bargaining committee for their hard work in securing this agreement,” said Paul Finch, Treasurer of BCGEU. The new collective agreement is for a five-year period (2014-2019) with planned wage increases of 5.5% plus dividends for economic stability. UBC Childcare confirmed that all deduction premiums will be included in the salary scale and will become retirement income from April 1, 2015 “We are very pleased to be able to translate with withholding premiums into regular wages,” said Andrea Duncan, Vice-President of BCGEU, which represents early childhood educators. “Many parents send their application to uBC Childcare Services when they first become pregnant, in the hope that their child will finally be admitted years later. The special feature of UBC Childcare is the commitment and patience of bcgeu/NUPGE early childhood educators, who retain the best of the children who supervise them,” explains Duncan. Starting in 2018, the more than 120 BCGEU/NUPGE members will be accredited to the Early Childhood Educators of B.C (ECEBC) at UBC Childcare Services. As part of this agreement, UBC pays for these accreditation fees. Thse members are all licensed early childhood educators.
